What To Expect On Your Initial Visit For Skin Rejuvenation

Your dermatologist will first take a detailed history and assess your skin condition. This will be followed by an in-depth discussion to determine your goals, discuss the treatment options available and manage your expectations. You can make the most of your appointment by coming in prepared during your scheduled visit. It will be helpful to make a list of your specific needs, the products you are currently using and any treatments that you have previously undergone.

FAQ

A dermatologist is a trained medical doctor who specializes in the health of your skin, hair and nails. They are also trained in the use of laser devices to help improve your skin appearance the safe and effective way.

Aging is a natural process that arises from both intrinsic(internal) and extrinsic (external) factors. Intrinsic aging occurs over time. It is genetically determined and there is little one can do to influence it. Extrinsic aging, on the other hand, is affected by our environment and lifestyle choices. It is in this aspect that we can make a difference as to how far and fast we age. Avoiding excessive sun exposure, alcohol and smoking as well as eating a balanced diet, having sufficient sleep, exercising regularly and managing stress will slow down the rate and extent of extrinsic aging.

The aged skin is often dry, rough and has a dull complexion. Fine lines and deep wrinkles, pigment spots and broken veins become visible over time. Enlarged pores are also a sign of aging skin. They are caused by the decrease in the skin’s collagen. As aging progresses, one will notice a loss of facial fullness and skin laxity becomes more obvious.

There is a wide array of treatment options for skin rejuvenation. These can be classified under 2 broad groups – surgical and non-surgical treatments. For a start, everyone will benefit from a basic regimen of using a mild face wash, moisturiser and sunblock. Skin creams containing humectants like hyaluronic acid, squalene and sodium PCA are effective moisturisers for those with dry and sensitive skins. More advanced moisturisers containing retinoids, alphahydroxy acids, antioxidants like vitamin C and E and special ingredients like resveratrol help to hydrate the skin as well as slow down the pace of collagen breakdown and pigment formation. Lightening creams are also useful for reducing hyperpigmented spots. There are many to choose from and your dermatologist will be the best person to advise on which would be the most appropriate for your needs.

For those with moderate skin aging, treatments like chemical peels, Silkpeel, IPL or Laser Toning will complement the home care routine. Individuals with prominent enlarged pores and deep wrinkles will benefit from semi-ablative lasers like the Mixto. Semi ablative lasers are more effective as they involve destruction of the damaged skin thus stimulating collagen regeneration. They involve a downtime of about 5 to 7 days.

Botox injections will benefit those with expression wrinkles. Filler injections are useful for deep lines like those in the nasolabial areas. Lastly, Radiofrequency treatments like Exilis will help to address problems of skin laxity in those who are not inclined for more aggressive treatments like a surgical facelift.

There is no one- size- fits- all in skin rejuvenation treatments. The patient’s main areas of concern, expectations, affinity for different treatment modalities, lifestyle and budget must all be taken into consideration in deciding on a treatment plan. This is where a thorough assessment by the dermatologist as well as good patient-doctor communication will help in tailoring a treatment protocol that best meets your needs.

Our first consultation starts from $90 - $180. Should any procedure be performed, financial counselling will be provided.
